Miami Dolphins
Final: San Francisco 49ers 35, Miami Dolphins 13
Record: 0–2
Miami stayed within 14–6 at halftime, but the game broke open after intermission. A missed field goal and a mishandled punt snap cost the Dolphins scoring position and helped San Francisco take control. The larger concern was Miami’s defense: Brock Purdy completed 20 of 22 passes for 287 yards, two passing touchdowns and a rushing score, while the 49ers produced touchdowns on each of their first five possessions.
Standouts
- De’Von Achane: 74 rushing yards, Miami’s most consistent offensive production.
- Malik Willis to Ryan Miller: A 77-yard fourth-quarter touchdown supplied Miami’s only trip to the end zone and accounted for much of Willis’ 197 passing yards.
- Patrick Paul: The left tackle was one of the few bright spots in pass protection, although the line surrendered four sacks overall.
Roster and injury watch
Edge rusher Chop Robinson missed the game with a concussion—his third reported concussion within a year. His absence mattered against a quarterback who faced too little disruption. No major new Dolphins injury from the game was confirmed in the sources reviewed, but Robinson’s status remains the key issue to monitor.
What it means
Miami’s rebuilding roster showed fight early, but the margin for error is extremely small. Special-teams failures and a defense unable to force even a few negative plays turned a competitive game into a rout. The 0–2 start becomes more difficult with another elite opponent approaching.

Miami Hurricanes
Final: Miami Hurricanes 33, Wake Forest 20
Record: 3–0 overall, 2–0 ACC
Miami dominated early, scoring touchdowns on its first three possessions and building a 31–7 lead early in the third quarter. Quarterback Darian Mensah completed his first 20 passes—an ACC record—and finished with 220 passing yards and three touchdowns. The concern came late: injuries disrupted the offense, Miami managed only one first down over its final six possessions, and Wake Forest trimmed the margin.
Standouts
- Darian Mensah: 220 passing yards, three touchdowns and another highly efficient performance.
- Malachi Toney: 14 receptions and a game-high 114 receiving yards before leaving with an injury.
- Mark Fletcher Jr.: 85 rushing yards before being injured.
- Ethan O’Connor: Eight tackles and a late interception that effectively sealed the victory.
Roster and injury watch
The win was costly. Head coach Mario Cristobal said running back CharMar “Marty” Brown and wide receiver Joshua Moore will miss the remainder of the season. Linebacker Ezekiel Marcelin Jr. is expected to miss several weeks. Cristobal was more optimistic about Fletcher, Toney and defensive tackle Ahmad Moten Sr., but their availability bears watching.
What it means
The Hurricanes proved their ceiling during a commanding first half, but the second-half stall and mounting injuries exposed the season’s central question: whether Miami has enough healthy depth to sustain championship-level play. Central Michigan offers a chance to stabilize before the October 3 trip to Clemson.
